Winter is approaching fast and many of us are already planning a trip down to the warm Spanish coast for when it will get the worst in the rest of Europe. Derek Blanquer doesn’t have this kind of issues. The scenic hills of Alicante where the Spring spends its wintertime are his backyard.
In the featured video skates down a local run on Miller Division prototype deck, 37 inches long and 9.8 inches wide in front and 9.7 inches in the back. The deck features a medium radial concave and is constructed of Canadian maple.
Derek has it set up with Aera K4 precision longboard trucks (180mm at 46 degree) and Seismic Speed Vent 77m / 80a wheels on 27 inch wheelbase.
Recently Derek also got hooked up with Bam Bam pucks which feature the flint inserts and throw some really nice looking sparks when you put your hand down. They are 80mm in diameter and 18mm tall and have 5 built-in flint inserts which are 10mm in diameter and 13mm tall.
The sparks don’t have any real function other then making you look uber cool, but these are so much fun and I personally like them a lot.
A hint for beginners
Taller pucks (more then 10mm) will help your gloves last longer as they will create bigger distance between your palm and the ground. This will reduce the chance of dragging your finger tips on the asphalt and tearing your gloves. Be sure to change the pucks when they become to thin.
