Alpenrauschen Day #1 Recap & Photos

Although we woke up to a rainy dawn, it couldn’t dampen people’s spirits to get on the track.
Starting a bit later at 11:30 the first riders took their run down the rain soaked track.

What they didn’t find was a icy death, but a consistent slide and braking power not usually associated with soaking wet roads!

Several runs and lots of smiles later, the group of riders now numbered around 80 people wearing 160 wet gloves and fueled on adrenalin.

The track was shortened for safety reasons and started in front of the tunnel and finish at the end of the fast straight section, even so, the first corner which is a crazy right sweeper, graciously accepted the kisses from several riders body parts.

Those that made it past this found themselves challenged by a bank left hand hairpin that spits them out into the rest of the track with speed!

Alpenrauschen Day #1 Video recap

After getting suitably wet on the track I retired to our hotel to go through the day’s footage I’d shot on the SLR and boy were there plenty of close calls and perfect executions of slides.

Keep your eyes peeled for daily videos like this one!

Alpenrauschen Day #2 Video Recap

All the buzz from yesterday’s riding blew the clouds away and we were in for a wild ride!
Starting around 11 the road had mostly dried and a few patches were still present, but they were easy to spot and riders had a lot on their hands, the track was now starting at the top and ending on the fast left / right combo where the tarmac changes.

Now the sweeper after the tunnel claimed even more victims, myself included, but everyone dusted themselves off and carried on like nothing happened, at least if they were wearing a suit ;)
Now blasting through the coarse at full speed and grip available, the most powerful riders grated their wheels like parmesan into the road and skated ridiculously fast.

The atmosphere was that of folks happy to be alive and buzzing from the pure rush only Alpenrauschen can deliver.

We ran live streams from the upper track most of the day and I had a fair bit of skating and video shooting, see below for Day 1’s video! Day 2 to follow tomorrow morning.

A big thanks go out to the BIGMOUNTAINSKATE crew for letting us put our brain box into rad situations :)

Alpenrauschen Day #3 Recap

The day started better on a high note with sunshine and a fully dry track, now we could ride all the corners!

The lower section of the track is a brand new tarmac, paved to perfection with a super smooth surface, we gripped it like white on rice.

But then a bit of rain came and folks were sliding out all over the place, so the track was shortened for the rest of the day.

I’ll be revisiting some of the corners I filmed on the 1st day to capture some of the faster riding and gnarlier bails.

Around 2pm we had an accident on the track and an air ambulance had to be called, the rider in question was chilled out though and we’re waiting on an update.

Keep your eyes peeled for more gnarly action tomorrow.

Alpenrauschen 2016 Day #4 Video Recap

Sunday was the best day at Alpenrauschen so far, the forecast for rain had loads of people leaving early.
After a few runs with a mix of rain and sunshine the track dried out beautifully and we scored loads of great runs.

With about 50 riders left skating the hill, the turnaround time for each run was fast and we ended on a high note around 5pm with tired legs and lots of hugs to give our friends who were leaving.

This video covers the riding until around 2pm, when I decided to start skating with my UK buddies properly for the first time this event, needless to say I can barely keep up with them ;)

BIGMOUNTAINSKATE put on a solid event this year, altering the length of the track to match the conditions and thus keeping the excitement level high.
